Go Finance Reporting in New York - The UN Food and Agriculture (FAO) notes, global food prices reached its highest level in January.

As reported by the AFP, economists are worried about the development of world food prices will encourage greater turmoil in the Middle East region. The increase in food prices is considered as one of the factors triggering the crisis in the region of North Africa, including Egypt and Tunisia.

Based on recent surveys, the FAO index, which monitors changes in monthly prices of various types of foodstuffs in January reached 231 - the highest since the start of the index listing in 1990.
